As embedded systems demand higher resolution, improved low-light performance, and seamless network integration, OEMs are often forced to choose between costly machine-vision cameras and low-cost IP modules that introduce long-term risk. The Videology 801 IP Camera addresses this challenge directly.
Designed specifically for OEM integration, the 801-IP-678 is a board-level 4K (8 MP) IP camera that combines industrial-grade reliability, NDAA compliance, and true plug-and-play IP streaming in a compact 38 mm × 38 mm form factor.
At the core of the 801-IP-678 is the Sony STARVIS 2™ IMX678 sensor, delivering 3840 × 2160 resolution at up to 30 fps, with the option for 1080p at up to 60 fps. The large 1/1.8" optical format and 2.0 µm pixels provide excellent sensitivity and image clarity, even when digitally zooming into regions of interest using Digital Pan/Tilt/Zoom (dPTZ).
This level of resolution enables system designers to cover larger areas with a single camera while still extracting fine details, reducing overall system complexity.
Low-light performance is a defining requirement for many industrial, medical, and aerospace applications. The STARVIS 2 sensor provides 0.05 lux color sensitivity and a strong near-infrared (NIR) response (780–1000 nm), enabling usable color imaging in near-darkness and reliable performance under NIR illumination. This makes the 801-IP-678 particularly effective in environments such as:
Dim industrial environments
Medical and diagnostic systems
Aircraft cabins and cargo holds
Nighttime or low-illumination surveillance
Unlike traditional machine-vision cameras that require a host PC, the 801-IP-678 is a standalone IP camera with an embedded 64-bit quad-core RISC-V processor running embedded Linux. It supports:
ONVIF Profile S for interoperability with standard VMS and NVR platforms
Up to three simultaneous RTSP video streams
H.264 / MJPEG compression
Typical end-to-end latency below 300 ms
Embedded systems engineers can simply connect the camera to a DHCP-enabled network and begin streaming, or dive deeper into integration, configuration, and system-level control using Videology’s documented HTTPS API (see Section 8: HTTPS API in the 801 IP Camera User Guide).
The 801-IP-678 is purpose-built as a component, not a closed black-box camera. Key features include:
Board-level form factor: 38 mm × 38 mm, just 9.5 g
Wide input voltage: 5–15 VDC
Low power consumption: 2.7 W typical at 12 VDC
4× GPIO for triggers and system interaction
Optional microSD card support for local storage
M12 lens mount options and accessory ecosystem
This flexibility allows OEMs to embed the camera into kiosks, robots, medical devices, UAVs, and other space-constrained platforms.
ONVIF Profile S compliance enables the Videology 801-IP-678 to integrate seamlessly into established IP video ecosystems. Standardized discovery, configuration, and streaming allow the camera to connect directly to widely used VMS and NVR platforms without custom drivers or proprietary middleware, accelerating evaluation, proof-of-concept, and deployment using familiar infrastructure.
For embedded platforms with long service lifecycles, ONVIF compliance reduces risk by supporting open, vendor-neutral architectures that remain compatible as software stacks and analytics evolve. Core IP video functions are handled through standardized interfaces. Videology’s documented HTTPS API enables deeper system-level control when required.
The result is faster time to market, reduced integration risk, and long-term compatibility across evolving IP video environments.

Engineered with industrial components, the Videology 801 IP operates across a -30 °C to +80 °C temperature range, making it suitable for demanding environments where consumer-grade modules fail.
For sustained high temperature operation or thermally constrained designs, a heatsink is recommended. Selected configurations include a factory installed heatsink, simplifying thermal management and system integration. Refer to the part numbering section of the 801-IP-678 product datasheet for heatsink installed configurations.
The Videology 801 IP Camera is well suited for:
Industrial automation and robotics – High-resolution inspection and system-level control via GPIO
Medical and life sciences – Compact 4K imaging with excellent low-light sensitivity
UAVs and aerospace – SWaP-optimized 4K video for reconnaissance and situational awareness
Transportation and cabin monitoring – IP-based surveillance with digital zoom and low-light performance
Embedded vision systems – OEM platforms requiring reliable, scalable IP video
Many generic 4K IP modules currently on the market rely on restricted chipsets, limiting their use in government, defense, and critical infrastructure projects. The 801 IP Camera is NDAA Section 889 compliant and contains no prohibited components. It is designed with no active components sourced from China. Videology supports the platform with a long product lifecycle and U.S. based engineering expertise.
Videology offers a dedicated 801-IP-678 Development Kit (DEV-801-IP-678-1HC0DC) to support rapid evaluation and system development. The kit includes a fully configured 801 IP Camera, two M12 lenses, essential power, Ethernet, and GPIO cables, and SD card storage accessories, enabling immediate image quality assessment and IP integration.
This ready-to-use platform helps engineering teams move quickly from evaluation to system-level integration while reducing early design risk.
