SCAiLX MIPI Interface Board | Sony FCB-EV9500M | Edge AI Camera

We continue to expand the capabilities of our modular SCAiLX Edge AI camera platform with the release of the SCAiLX MIPI Interface Board (SCAILX-MIPI-S). This new half-size board (42 x 20.25 mm) is purpose-built to interface seamlessly with the Sony® FCB-EV9500M zoom block camera, bringing high-speed MIPI CSI connectivity and reliable VISCA control to the SCAiLX ecosystem.

Designed for Compact Performance and Seamless Integration

At just 42 x 20.25 x 4 mm, the SCAiLX MIPI Interface Board (SCAILX-MIPI-S) demonstrates the efficiency of the SCAiLX modular design philosophy. It mounts directly on the SCAiLX Universal SoM Board (SCAILX-SOM-AI), utilizing the CSI0-IN connector for a streamlined connection path. Despite its compact form factor, it does not obstruct access to other connectors or expansion boards. This allows system designers and developers to integrate additional modules such as the SCAILX-LVDS-2-MIPI or the SCAILX-2GS234-xC camera boards for multi-input configurations.

A single 30-wire KEL cable connects the Sony® FCB-EV9500M to the SCAILX-MIPI-S, providing 12V power, 4-lane MIPI video, VISCA UART communication, and GPIO signals in one unified link. This approach simplifies wiring and ensures clean, reliable signal integrity, crucial for precision imaging applications.

Optimized Video and Control Performance

The SCAILX-MIPI-S supports 4-lane MIPI CSI transmission, enabling progressive-scan video output at resolutions of up to 1080p with frame rates ranging from 25 to 60 fps, including fractional rates such as 29.97 and 59.94 fps.

The board also supports VISCA over UART, offering baud rates from 9.6 kbps to 115.2 kbps for responsive camera control and reliable communication between the SCAiLX AI processor and the Sony camera module.

Through the integrated I²C-to-UART converter (SC16IS741), the SCAiLC MIPI-S board ensures compatibility with the SCAiLX SoM-AI I²C interface. This maintains standardized command handling while offloading control processing from the main compute module.

Intelligent Power Management and System Compatibility

The board draws 5V power internally from the SCAILX-SOM-AI via the CSI0-IN connector, while the  Sony® FCB-EV9500M is powered through a 12V line that is electronically switched via the PWRON control pin,  allowing firmware-level power management and safe operation during system startup or reconfiguration.

The SCAiLX firmware release 0.11.5 (and later releases) automatically detects the SCAiLX MIPI Interface Board during boot, with all necessary drivers for MIPI video streaming and serial communication loaded seamlessly at startup.
